Plan your cropping carefully, only a limited number of crops can be sold from the organic rotation, ensure that you obtain optimum value from the crop without compromising the overall rotation.
Identify a market that meets your needs in terms of price and movement before drilling the crop.
Decide whether to target feed or quality market outlets. Feed grains are often easier to market.
If you are targeting milling or malting markets ensure that you select suitable varieties. Most consumers prefer to use a small number of varieties that provide consistent results in their production processes.
Develop a clear marketing strategy. If you need early movement, make arrangements well before harvest. If you target quality markets be aware of the alternative outlets if the crop does not meet the required quality standards.
Aim to grow full truck loads of each crop – modern vehicles are capable of lifting around 27Mt. Haulage is costly and part loads will affect the price you can command as well as being wasteful.
