Milling Wheat
Between a quarter and a third of demand for organic grain is for milling wheat. However, in most seasons millers are forced to import some milling wheat to obtain sufficient high-quality grain.

    • Winter drilled varieties are higher yielding but low protein levels may limit premium potential.
    • Spring varieties, such as Paragon, have excellent milling potential but are likely to be lower yielding.
    • Aim to produce grain of Minimum 11% Protein (dry), 250 HFN and 76Kg/Hl.
  • Presentation of the sample is important. Grain must be dry, free from admixture, and have low screenings through a 2mm sieve.
  • Be prepared to store grain for a reasonable period if necessary.
  • Choose varieties that are acceptable for your intended market
